"You Never Say 'Good Luck' on Opening Night," The Producers

Getting our show off the ground had a rocky start. The truck that was supposed to bring our lights to our first venue didn't arrive in Kentucky until Tuesday afternoon, so the first two days were a sort of grace period. Monday afternoon, we had a general orientation, then the rest of the day belonged to our sound crew. We EQ'd our mic's, had a very relaxed sitzprobe with the band (who all play beautifully), and ended the day with a catered dinner. If you're curious what I had to eat this week in Kentucky, and everything else I'm going to eat on the road, be sure to see the latest addition to the Little Women journey, Mychal Eats America!

Tuesday was an early start at 9, for fear that we wouldn't get to run anything before the lights showed up, and turns out, we didn't! Management had to cut us loose so the crew could set up our lighting rig. We actually all got together as a cast in the hotel restaurant, where we sang and partied with a Bluegrass jam band in the middle of the lobby; it was the most Kentucky thing I've ever seen. Tech continued pretty normally, and everything has come together beautifully to make some spectacular theater.

We opened Little Women at the RiverPark Center in Owensboro on Saturday, and we had our second show at the Carson Center for the Performing Arts in Paducah last night. Later today we have a school show at 10:00 AM, followed by a talk back with the kiddos in the audience, then we hit the road for a 9 hour bus ride to Jackson, Mississippi. Coming up we have Senatobia on Wednesday, Oxford, Alabama, on Thursday, Springfield, Montana, on Friday, Overland Park, Kansas on Saturday, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on Sunday. Oy vey.

That's about as much as my brain can handle right now, I'm just going where they tell me to and it seems to be working out so far. I'll continue to take lots of pictures, keep going to the gym as often I can, and eating responsibly each day. It's looking like we're going to cool it with going out as a group every night, and instead use our time in the bus/backstage for socializing. It's actually looking like the 9 hour bus ride is finally going to be when Elijah, Sam and AC teach me how to play Dungeons & Dragons.

Before we move too far way from opening, here's a little slice of my week in Owensboro:

This is without a doubt the most amazing job I've ever had, and the most insane thing I have ever done. I can't wait to see where we go from here... literally!

And scene.
