"Nolite te bastardes carborundorum, bitches.”

Offred, The Handmaid's Tale

How do these keep sneaking up on me until the very last minute? They're every week.

Another relaxing and easy week for me, which always means a lackluster career update. I made it back home safely last Monday, and have been rigorously relaxing all week. On days that allow it, Heidi and I have been staying up playing video games and watching our shows until 4 AM and embarrassingly sleeping in until 2 PM. I'm on vacation: sue me, sue me, what can you do me?

Yesterday marked mine and Heidi's one year anniversary of being married. It was through tremendous luck and wonky scheduling that we were able to celebrate it together, and I'm grateful to the cosmic forces at work that made it so. We exchanged gifts on the day, but have had something of a romantic weekend, actually, going out to dinner together a few times and cuddling like it was our job. We also finished the first season of The Handmaid's Tale, one of Heidi's favorite shows, and I started her on Succession, one of mine.

Heidi had a developmental reading that took her all the way to Philadelphia this weekend. I wanted to drive her so we didn't lose too much time together, and we agreed that bringing Atticus was a must so he wasn't alone for a full seven hours. We all piled in for a mini-road trip, and it was lovely. While Heidi was acting and singing her face off, the pup and I were able to spend the whole day together, walking along the Schuylkill River and making a plethora of four-legged friends at a nearby dog park. I'd only been to Philly once before in college, but returning now to navigate around potholes the size of hospitals, I can now say with the full-throated confidence of a true East Coaster that Philly is a dump.

This week is all about getting back in the swing of things before returning to Little Women on Friday. The next three days are dedicated to repacking, recording more songs in our studio, and soaking up as much quality time with the wife as possible. Thursday, I fly out of Newark and head for sunny California, where most of my Arizona family will finally get to see the show! I'm eager to get back to work, but until then, I'll be building up my base in Minecraft and lounging in my PJ's.

And scene.
